An effective individual learning plan (ILP) is at the heart of assessment, learning, support and achievement. It helps the learner to become an active, motivated partner in learning. Ofsted will review ILPs as part of their inspection of Support for Students.

Idaho recognises that recording the on going progress and achievement of learners is central to good teaching and learning. We developed an online interface that makes the process completely personalised to the user and giving access on a permission based way to each tutor. The ILP allows personal target setting, in the short and long term, is an integral part of the ILP.
As a learner populates their ILP they are given indicative pathway information within their dashboard which allows them to clearly see the route of progression a qualification or job can roadmap to. In addition the ILP seamlessly joins to our Careerstube product to provide in dashboard videos specifically selected based on the choices and information the learner provides in their ILP. This is a powerful feature which uniquely addresses the aspirational way in which content can be consumed by each learner.
Learners have data stored in their Individual Learning Plan which can be used to generate a custom CV through the CV builder section. This system can be fully integrated into a data compliant CAP built by Idaho or an equivalent partner. The ILP is portable to ensure the learner does not have to recreate information as they move through the system or change provider.
The Idaho ILP is a permission based system where learners are able to invite employers, teachers and relevant others to add references, testimonials or positive comments in support of their personal characteristics, achievements or skills, in recognition of all aspects of young people’s achievements within the community. These are fully customised views or dynamically created PDF documents that learners have control of sending and recipients have the ability to comment on. The system then stores these exchanges for the learner to review and select from.
We recognise the popularity of social networking sites where users store all sorts of information about themselves. The Idaho ILP can store learners’ achievements: academic success, extra-curricular activities; contributions to the community; and interests and hobbies. There is also a section devoted to the student’s work experience and a statement of their personal qualities. This will be of benefit to employers and admissions’ tutors to higher education who the learner can invite to view the information. The learner can add a variety of media types to their ILP ranging from text and standard documents to images and videos which can both be uploaded to the ILP by mobile phone if necessary.
The ILP dashboard learners use is infinitely customisable. The system allows a wide selection of colour and interface looks and each element on the page can be dynamically ‘dragged around the page to create a custom interface to the learner’s liking. The resources area allows tutors to store electronic files: homework; photographs; notes. We have seen this ‘personalisation’ help to foster motivation and ownership of their ILP, in an innovative and creative way.
This is a technique that has been championed by the likes of the BBC and Google and is a feature that youngsters are highly familiar with
Idaho recognise the importance of data and are leading the implementation of data standards across the 14-19 agenda. We have developed the largest XCRI pilot in the UK to date and our ILP product is completely compliant with this emerging standard. As learners become ever more mobile can now automatically add courses and places of study with full integration to government systems.
